Chemist named research director, chief scientist at MSU’s Advanced Composites Institute
A research leader with valuable industrial experience at a global specialty chemicals company has been named research director and chief scientist at Mississippi State’s Advanced Composites Institute.
MSU’s Quietest Room: Raspet Flight Lab using new chamber to develop quieter drones
Quietness and Mississippi State’s Raspet Flight Research Laboratory might seem an odd pairing since the lab sits adjacent to a local airport runway. However, a newly constructed interior room at the flight lab has been labeled the university’s quietest.
MSU engineers lead the way for bringing UAS to the skies during ice conditions
Mississippi State engineers in the university’s Raspet Flight Research Laboratory are spearheading research that could make unmanned aircraft systems operational by the U.S. government as well as civilian aviation in icy conditions.
Brooks named interim director of Raspet Flight Research Lab
An engineer with decades of experience in the design, testing and certification of aircraft systems is now leading Mississippi State University’s Raspet Flight Research Laboratory. Tom Brooks is the interim director of the university’s distinguished research center focused on unmanned aircraft systems
Drones are helping scientists understand major weather events
A few days after Hurricane Delta made landfall in Louisiana on October 9, researchers from NOAA, the Northern Gulf Institute and the Raspet Flight Research Laboratory launched a TigerShark XP3 UAS platform near the banks of the Mississippi River. The TigerShark — a large drone — flew over long stretches of the river, collecting imagery of the riverbanks that would give scientists details about the flooding impact Delta had caused.
Unveiling of MSU’s vintage football uniforms flies high in flight lab’s Advanced Composites Institute
Mississippi State’s history of leadership in aerospace research and development, Bulldog “air raid” offense, and a nod to the university’s history mark the return of a vintage logo to MSU football uniforms this week.
UAS missions supporting flood forecasting following Hurricane Delta landfall
With operations based along the Mississippi River near Greenville, Mississippi, the Northern Gulf Institute collaborated with the Raspet Flight Research Laboratory at Mississippi State University to deploy an unmanned aircraft system for several hours over flood-inundated land during October to collect imagery.
FAA selects MSU’s Raspet Flight Research Lab to lead UAS safety efforts
MSU’s Raspet Flight Research Laboratory was recently designated as the Federal Aviation Administration’s UAS Safety Research Facility, placing the research center as the helm of studying and developing safety and certification standards as UAS become increasingly integrated in the U.S. airspace.
