Joey Moffett just celebrated his one-year anniversary as a member of Raspet's flight team, but he landed at Raspet with 30-plus years of experience as a flight technician.

Joey began his career as an aircraft mechanic in 1988 at Naval Air Station Meridian where he performed inspections, routine maintenance, and necessary repairs on military aircraft for 13 years.

A certified airframe and powerplant mechanic, Joey is responsible for maintaining our fleet of aircraft, the largest at any academic institution, to make sure they are ready to fly for each mission, and he also supports flight operations during flight tests in the field.

In April, Joey earned his inspection authorization certification, the highest level of maintenance certification awarded to aviation mechanics. This certification allows Joey to perform yearly aircraft inspections as required by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Most recently, Joey, along with our entire flight team, has been training for a new season of UAS research and exploration with expanded capabilities for future flight operations with Teros, the largest, most sophisticated UAS at any U.S. research institution.
